Tom ("Almost 12")

Tom is curious, kind, and always eager to discover the story behind things. As a newcomer to Colour Village, he sees the village with fresh eyes—a place where everyone seems to focus mainly on their own colour. Without a grand plan, but armed with endless questions and a strong sense of wonder, he brings people together and sets events in motion that no one could have predicted. As early as Book 1, his friends jokingly give him the nickname:

"The Lost Connector."

Ben (The Old Man)

Ben is an unconventional inventor who has spent the past twenty years working on a pair of Multi-Colour Glasses with clear prescription lenses. While most of the villagers dismiss him as crazy and stubbornly cling to their own coloured glasses—which eventually grow onto your face if you wear them for too long—Ben never stops believing that there is a better way to see Colour Village.

Behind his cluttered cottage and eccentric ideas lies a warm heart, a brilliant mind, and a deep faith in young people. His favourite phrases are, "Please explain." and "That's right."

Ben shares his home with Yin, a black cat with a white tip on her tail, and Yang, a white dog with a black tip on his tail. Yang also serves as the security system for the Colour Council Headquarters.

Before long, Ben becomes the mentor of the Colour Council.

Liva (12)

Liva is a cheerful, sensitive, and curious girl from the Yellow Colour District. She always tries to see the best in people, but she also loves teasing her friends and keeping them guessing. Although she enjoys fun and laughter, Liva gradually begins to long for something more meaningful than the endless partying that fills her district.

With her open-minded outlook, warm personality, and playful sense of humour, she plays an important role within the Colour Council—and, without always realising it, in Tom's life as well.

Liva's best friend is Vonka. As a symbol of their friendship, they wear each other's earrings.

Vonka (12)

Vonka is an energetic and spontaneous girl from the Red Colour District. She usually says exactly what she's thinking and is not easily discouraged. Beneath her fiery personality lies a loyal heart and a strong sense of justice. Always ready for an adventure, she often keeps the Colour Council moving—both literally and figuratively.

Vonka's best friend is Liva. As a symbol of their friendship, Vonka wears Liva's yellow earrings, while Liva wears hers.

Azur (14) 

Azur comes from the Blue Colour District and, at fourteen, is the oldest member of the Colour Council. Calm, analytical, and highly organised, he likes structure and clear thinking. For a long time, he has dreamed of launching a Multi-Colour Channel on television, but he has never managed to finish his Manifesto. That's why he wears a black earring in his left ear.

Through the Colour Council, Azur rediscovers his motivation to work towards greater unity within Colour Village. Later on, he even develops a clear and practical model that helps the Colour Council turn ideas into action.

Zinnia (11)

Zinnia comes from the Green Colour District and is calm, sensitive, and intuitive. She observes the world around her with great attention and often trusts her instincts. During the search for the Lost Colour Kingdom, she is the one who repeatedly points the others in the right direction. Her parents don't have running water, but they do have electricity so they can watch GoldTube.

As a member of the Colour Council, Zinnia discovers that her intuition is a remarkable strength. She also comes to realise that her own coloured glasses limit the way she sees the world. This awakens a growing appreciation for the richness of every colour in nature, as well as a deepening interest in the unity of Colour Village as a whole.

Nox (9)

Nox is Azur's younger brother. Thanks to his innocence, he sometimes asks questions that can be painfully direct without meaning any harm. He simply says whatever pops into his head, which isn't always the most tactful thing to do. Even so, everyone adores him.

He loves football and swimming. As a member of the Colour Band, he plays percussion, just like Pippa.

Miro (14)

Miro comes from the Green Colour District and joins the Colour Council in Book 3. As Zinnia's older brother, he is practical, dependable, and prefers to stay in the background. But when he speaks, people listen. And when something excites him, his enthusiasm is contagious.

He is the drummer of the Colour Band and knows how music can bring people together. One of his favourite observations is that even the most spectacular pop concert—despite thousands having paid a fortune for their tickets—simply can't go ahead if the drummer forgets his two inexpensive drumsticks...

Pippa (9)

Pippa is Liva's younger sister and comes from the Yellow Colour District. She is cheerful, spontaneous, and loves teasing people in a playful way. At the same time, she always keeps an eye on whether everyone feels included. She's often the first to notice when someone is in danger of being left out and wants to make sure everyone is having a good time.

Pippa is full of enthusiasm and loves dancing and music. Like Nox, she plays percussion in the Colour Band.

Saffra (15)

Saffra is Vonka's older sister and first appears in Book 3 during a walk through the Colour Forest. It is on this walk that she inspires the Colour Council to turn their idea for a village-wide game into a 24/7 Huh? Wow! role-playing game, open to everyone in Colour Village.

Rob & Linde

Rob and Linde are Tom's parents. After moving to Colour Village, they give their son the freedom to explore his new surroundings and make new friends. With trust, humour, and genuine interest, they follow his adventures, while gradually discovering for themselves that Colour Village is much more than a village divided into four Colour Districts.

Along the way, Tom also learns that even the happiest marriages have the occasional argument.

Berthilde (Azur's Grandmother) 

Berthilde, Azur's grandmother, suffers from the mysterious Colour Skin Disease, a condition that eventually affects almost everyone in Colour Village. When Azur discovers a blue patch on his own skin, he fears the worst. But why does it seem to fade the more time he spends with his friends from the other Colour Districts?

According to Zinnia, that's no coincidence...

Marion Grey

Marion Grey works as a civil servant at the Grey Town Hall. She is open to the ideas of the Huh? Wow! Colour Council, including a pilot project for an endless Multi-Colour Festival in the village centre. She also helps organise the performance by the Colour Band and Ada Abracadabra.

By the end of The Colour Village Trilogy, it becomes clear that even a grey civil servant can turn out to be surprisingly colourful.

Just goes to show!

Ada Abracadabra

Ada Abracadabra is already the biggest singing star of the Yellow Party District when she suddenly becomes famous throughout Colour Village. All thanks to a short video that is SO INCREDIBLY BIZARRE that it's probably best not to say another word about it HERE...

You'll just have to read the book. 😉

At the end of The Colour Village Trilogy, Ada performs with the Colour Band. Without Tom, who is conspicuous by his absence—his keyboard had broken down. But by then, Tom no longer minds at all, especially after hearing what Ada whispers in his ear in the very last line of the trilogy...

(A fun little fact: Ada was never meant to become a major character. She started out as a one-off cameo, but somehow she refused to leave—to really become the biggest star in the entire series!)
